Quiet luxury, low-maintenance styles and a nod to decades past have defined the last year of hair trends. There was a soft moon and the return of the French roll, and we even saw a resurgence of the noughties’ calico hair’. But what’s in store for 2025 hair trends? We asked pro stylists to give us the lowdown on what they see trending in their salons to see what’s set to take off in the new year.
Warm, Low-maintenance Tones Hair Trends
Warm, low-maintenance tones are already trending, and there’s no sign of a slowdown anytime soon. “Our hair extension experts have noticed a huge shift from cool to warm tones, as warm tones require less maintenance and provide a more natural, earthy look,” explains Victoria Lynch, hair expert and founder of Remi Cachet. Options like moonshine, root stains, and creamy warm tones help keep maintenance to a minimum hair trends.
Long Capes for Living
Long capes look luxurious and glamorous but are surprisingly easy to maintain. “Layers are soft and loose, adding just enough texture to keep your hair looking natural and fresh as it grows out,” says New York City-based hairstylist Marie Nino hair trends. “To ensure layers last, ask your stylist for soft layers that frame the face and subtle texture underneath for natural movement.” Use a lightweight texturizing spray to enhance the vibe easily.
Modern French Bob
On the other hand, our experts tell us that short hair is back in style, and the modern French bob is taking centre stage hair trends.
“The modern French bob is an elegant chin-length cut with soft layers or subtle texture that frames the face. “This is a trend because it combines timeless sophistication with a modern edge, perfect for those looking for a fresh, confident style,” says Jennifer Korab, celebrity hairstylist and Renaissance Salon + Spa owner. “It’s a minimalist approach to hair that doesn’t sacrifice personality. My pro tip is to focus on precise cutting to ensure a clean shape.”
Tousled Curls with Curtain Bangs
You may have noticed a theme in the 2025 hair trends: effortless style. One way to keep your hair simple is to embrace natural texture, and we’re seeing that with the rise of curls and ringlets hair trends.
“This look pairs soft, loose curls with curtains for a playful yet elegant look. It combines retro volume with modern, wearable texture for a casual yet sophisticated aesthetic,” says Korab. “The versatility of this look means it can be used on numerous hair types and lengths.”
She recommends using a 1-inch curling wand to create loose curls, leaving the ends slightly loose for an effortless effect. Style the curls with a round brush and blow dryer, then spray with a texturizing spray for volume.
Bright Jewel Tones
Expect bright fantasy colours to make a comeback in 2025, with vibrant jewel tones at the top of the list. Think emerald green, sapphire, and blue. “These bold, rich tones create a luxurious, dramatic look that adds complexity and dimension to the hair hair trends.
They’re perfect for clients who want to make a statement and move away from softer tones,” says Nino. “To achieve bold jewel tones, your hair must be pre-lightened to a vibrant, even blonde to ensure the colour pops. These rich shades fade quickly, so regular touch-ups, colour-protecting shampoos, and cold-water washes are essential to maintain their richness and shine.
See Wet Sculpt
This trend features sleek, sculpted styles with a glossy finish that exudes elegance and drama. “It’s gaining momentum due to its versatility, perfect for casual, evening, and special occasions. It’s a confident, bold statement that requires minimal effort but makes a big impact,” says Korab.
To recreate the look yourself, she suggests using a lightweight styling gel or cream with shine-enhancing properties to smooth hair instead. Comb through to create a sleek look and set with a strong-hold hairspray hair trends.
Short Natural Length
We love the glamour of hair bouncing and flowing, but 2025 is all about shorter hair that’s easier to maintain and style. “Shorter, natural lengths are the future trend,” says Lynch. That could mean opting for a big piece for a nice refresh, or it could look like choosing shorter-length extensions (12 to 16 inches) instead of the super-long options that have been popular for so long. Says Lynch, “It’s essential to remember that extensions aren’t just for long hair, as shorter cuts can use extensions to fill in sparse areas.”
Bixie Wolf Cut
When the wolf cut hit the scene a few years ago, some thought it might be a fad in hair. They were wrong. In 2025, the cut will still be trending, with the Bixie cut gaining momentum.
“The bixie wolf cut is a combination of cool and carefree, combining the short, voluminous shape of the bixie with the textured, lively layers of the wolf cut,” says Nino. “It has a fresh-woke vibe but still feels fresh and full of movement hair trends. It effortlessly channels Brooklyn energy a little longer than your average pixie.” It’s the perfect cut for those looking to create a bold, playful, and energetic style without putting in too much effort.
